Bentley Sets New Ice Speed Record

Bentley Continental SS convertible

The Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible with 621bhp was driven by Finnish WRC driver Juha Kankkunen on the frozen Baltic sea of the coast of Finland. The Bentley managed to achieve top velocity of 330kph, thereby setting a new speed record for a car on ice.
The record setting Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible was equipped with a roll-cage, aerodynamic modifications to add stability, Pirelli winter tyres and a rear parachute to help slow down.

Cracking the 200 mile an hour barrier can be a piece of cake especially when the Continental Supersports rides on 275/35 ZR20 Pirelli Ultra High Performance rubber. So to up the ante, Bentley put the Supersports convertible on a 20 centimeter thick frozen Baltic sea and gave it the beans. Result: The Conti-SS sailed passed 199.83  mph to reach 205 mph breaking the record and the man behind the wheel was Juha Kankkunen.
